Malaysia Confirms No Citizens on Hantavirus-Affected MV Hondius; Strengthens Border Surveillance and Lab Capacity for Andes Virus Detection

Malaysia's Health Minister confirmed no Malaysian citizens were aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship during a hantavirus outbreak that killed three people (a Dutch couple and a German national) and infected eight others. Two Singaporean crew members tested negative for the virus. The Malaysian Health Ministry is implementing enhanced surveillance measures at international borders and strengthening laboratory capacity for confirmatory testing of new hantavirus strains, including Andes virus (ANDV).
